Another AWS re:Invent has come and gone. This year, we at LaunchDarkly had the opportunity to share our expertise on the next frontier of DevOps and modern software development. Our AWS re:Invent 2023 was packed with hands-on demos, enlightening sessions, and unforgettable experiences. Let's recap the highlights of this incredible event.
Captivating sessions
We shared insights on LaunchDarkly and AWS best practices. From the big picture to granular details, we had sessions that catered to a wide range of interests, including deeper insights into our platform's capabilities and how it can transform software delivery. What's more, we got to hear our customers share about how they've been able to effectively migrate and modernize with LaunchDarkly.
Accelerate experimentation with GenAI
In our featured session, “Accelerate Experimentation with Amazon Bedrock”, our Director of Engineering & Data Science, Robert Neal, announced our brand-new Generative AI offering powered by Amazon Bedrock. This new capability eliminates the complexities of experimentation, using LaunchDarkly to solve problems in product with a few lines of code and unlock the ability to measure the business impact of every feature release.
Our GenAI-powered offering leverages Amazon Bedrock’s large language models (LLMs) to provide users with tailored guidance on designing and running experiments. Using Bedrock models like Titan combined with customer-specific, encoded data in LaunchDarkly, the models provide responses that incorporate the experimenter’s business-specific needs and domain knowledge.
“LaunchDarkly's relationship with AWS around generative AI-powered experimentation significantly amplifies our testing capabilities and accelerates our ability to discover and ship the most valuable features, faster." - Harrison Reid, Senior Director of Engineering, ZenBusiness
De-risk releases and migrations on AWS
During our “Feature Management: De-risking Migrations and Releases for PowerSchool” session, PowerSchool shared their transformational journey with AWS and LaunchDarkly.
Adam Hisley, Principal Architect at PowerSchool, shared how they use LaunchDarkly to incrementally refactor their monolithic architecture and move towards a microservices-oriented approach, without the need for "big-bang" migrations. Adam detailed how they use LaunchDarkly to support a multi-stage approach to de-risk their migrations and releases. With LaunchDarkly, PowerSchool has reduced 150K+ lines of code, provided their development team with a higher level of confidence in rolling out new functionality, and delivered seamless experiences to millions of customers.
Peter McCarron, Senior Technical Marketing Engineer at LaunchDarkly, shared a demo of Migration Assistant to demonstrate how we can help teams safely migrate to new databases while monitoring and maintaining control at every stage of the process.
Hands-on demos and challenges
One of the most exciting parts of re:Invent was giving people the chance to use our product! This went down at:
The DevOps & modernization JAM: Getting personal with AWS and LaunchDarkly
In this challenge, we had attendees use LaunchDarkly feature flags to create personalized user experiences and connect user information from Cognito to web applications and serverless functions.
Our custom, in-booth challenge
In our in-booth challenge, attendees were able to break out of normal demos and get hands-on using feature flags. Visitors experienced what it’s like to ship and release new features in a risk-free environment while competing against each other to see how fast they could implement changes.
Unforgettable experiences
As if the DevOps and modernization journey weren't thrilling enough, we took it a step further with unforgettable experiences beyond the tradeshow floor.
We hosted exclusive experiences at our space at CUT. From galaxy-themed spirits to recovery kits to get attendees through the week, we had it all. It was the perfect escape from the conference chaos.
What's more, our VIPs enjoyed a gourmet tour of the Las Vegas Strip at three of the most distinguished restaurants in the area: Javier's, Julian Serrano, and Mastro's Ocean Club. After dinner, our attendees embarked on an ECO-Star helicopter flight that soared high above iconic landmarks such as the Bellagio, the Eiffel Tower, and the stadiums where the Golden Knights and Raiders play before landing atop the Venetian.
AWS re:Invent 2023 was an adventure filled with innovation, hands-on experiences, and unforgettable moments. We look forward to continuing our journey as we venture into the next frontier of DevOps.
